Think you need a 4 M/E switcher?  
                ... you may not.

Kahuna 360 breaks the tradition of fixed M/Es. It's unique capability to create tailored M/Es from it's pool of keyers and resize engines mean that you choose Production Power based precisely on the requirements of your current application. If your application changes, simply upgrade to more Production Power as you need it. What's more, this processing power can be re-distributed at any time.

This capability is another first from Snell for production switching, promoting maximum utilization of hardware resources, reducing initial outlay and optimizing energy efficiency.

Your production requirements may lead you to believe that you need a 4 M/E switcher - and with a traditional switcher architecture, you would be right.  However, with Kahuna 360's MakeM/E technology allowing tailor made M/E's to be produced from it's processing resources, you may only need 2 Kahuna M/Es.

With 7 keyers and 4 resize engines notionally making up each Kahuna 360 M/E, all natively supporting 1080p, there is significant scope for re-distributing the Production Power, to meet your specific requirements.

Snell’s proprietary FormatFusion3 technology, built into Kahuna 360, supports any combination of SD, HD and 1080p(3G) inputs and outputs, seamlessly converting them to and from the required standards.  This capability elimintates the need for external conversion equipment and therefore reduces initial capital outlay, removes system timing issues, reduces space and power requirements and simplifies engineering and setup time.

Advanced architecture

Kahuna’s advanced architecture allows it to evolve in order to match customer requirements on an ongoing basis. With up to 6 M/E’s, 7 keyers per M/E and unique Make M/E™ technology, enabling 16 split, sub level switchers, Kahuna 360 gives operators all the functionality they need to target a broader audience over a greater number of distribution channels.

Creativity in production

Versatile features provide a wide range of creative functionality.  A fully loaded 3D DVE with linear and non-linear effect gives the operator virtually unbounded creativity options, which are further enhanced by a mix effects architecture with four keyers and unrestricted placement of graphics.

ANO Sports - Case Study

Panorama’s mission is to provide a national HDTV signal to enable millions of viewers in Russia to watch the Winter Olympic Games and the Winter Paralympic Games in Sochi in 2014, as well as the XXVII World Summer University Games in Kazan in 2013. 

The goal is to create a modern broadcasting complex that will provide TV, radio, internet and photographic coverage of Olympic events.

3D with Kahuna

For live 3D events the ability for production systems to deal with imperfect feeds is critical. The nature of live environments makes it much harder to control quality of incoming video, and 3D requires exacting standards to be met. Snell is pioneering 3D support within a switcher with Kahuna. Where other companies have simply supported 3D by tying two mixer buses together to support stereo video (an expensive use of switcher resources), Kahuna can support stereo video on a single M/E.
